Last weekend, I had the distinct privilege to learn more about YakitoriQ, the latest food cart business idea from the creator of Potato Corner, Jorge Noel Y. Wieneke III, an 18-year veteran of the food industry.
He was initially in the advertising industry before becoming an entrepreneur and consultant to many businesses, including Waffle Time and Mini Stop.
Currently, he shares his entrepreneurial knowledge to students in the Center for Continuous Education (CCE) of the Ateneo de Manila as Program Director for Retail Diploma, Franchise Management and Spa Management Program. You would likely have seen him also in PLDT KaAsenso ads as he is the face of that project.
Sir Jorge is also a founding member of the Association of Philippine Franchisers Inc., one of the largest franchising organization in the Philippines.
Aside from Potato Corner, he also runs Japok which is a highly affordable Japanese Fast Food Restaurant and Kbop Quick Korean, a Korean Fast Food Restaurant in Mckinley Hills.
Yakitori-Q
Yakitori-Q is a Japanese street food concept usually consisting of chicken and its different parts, skewered and grilled to perfection and dipped in secret barbeque sauce. For the Philippine market, the following sauces are available: Yakitori, American BBQ, Pinoy BBQ, Korean Bulgogi, and suka.
Yakitori-Q is a budget friendly comfort food. A single stick of chicken or pork YakitoriQ is only P16. There are combo meals also. 2 pieces of YakitoriQ with rice will only cost you P45. Way cheaper than most local fast food places.
I tried some of the Yakitori and I found it quite tender and its outer was fried to perfect crispines
I was informed that the franchise fee would be around 250k.
Expect to see Yakitori-Q stalls this June in Greenhills, Tutuban Center, St. Francis Square, MCU and Robinson’s Ermita.
For this year, the target is 50 stalls.
What they are looking for in prospective franchisees are those that are cooperative and are willing to learn all about the business.
Good Places for this food business are bus terminals and food courts in malls as there is heavy human traffic in those places.
Finally, let me share his strategy when it comes to crafting business ideas:
I imagine and Visualize. It all starts with imagination.
